EU Ministers Call on Netanyahu to Cease Rafah Incursion

Ministers from at least 26 countries of the European Union have urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the Rafah incursion, as the southern Gaza city shelters more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.

In a joint statement, they said, "Netanyahu must immediately halt the land incursion; those civilians have nowhere to go."

The EU and the international community should take action to prevent such a scenario, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said.

Israel's "evacuation" order for civilians in Rafah signals the onset of further war, destruction, famine and worst humanitarian crisis, he added.

Israeli military invaded Southern Gaza’s Rafah with tanks on Tuesday and seized the vital Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt, relenting aid flow into Gaza.

Heavy airstrikes and artillery shelling continues to be reported across the strip.

At least 34,789 people have been killed and 78,204 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
