Srinagar, Jan 10 — A day after similar action in Budgam, Srinagar Police on Saturday launched a verification drive against unregistered homestays, hotels and guest houses across the city as part of stepped-up security and regulatory checks ahead of Republic Day.
The drive was conducted jointly by Srinagar Police and the Tourist Police Station Srinagar to check whether accommodation units were operating with valid registration and statutory approvals.
“During the inspection, several establishments were found functioning without mandatory registration from the competent authorities,” a police official said.
The violators were fined on the spot, and police said preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) will be initiated against the owners of unregistered units.
Police have asked all homestay, hotel and guest house operators to ensure compliance with the prescribed legal requirements and complete their registrations with the concerned authorities.
“Such verification and enforcement drives will continue to ensure adherence to regulations and promote safe and responsible tourism in Srinagar,” the official added
