11 Persons Die In Poonch Road Accident, LG Announces Ex-Gratia

Srinagar: At least 11 persons died and dozens were injured after a bus carrying almost 30 passengers skidded off the road at Bareri Nallah and plunged into a deep gorge on Wednesday morning in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Poonch district.

An officials said that the bus was coming from Mandi to Saujiyan.

A major rescue operation was launched by the army, police and locals, he said.

So far, 11 bodies have been recovered from the crash site, a police officer said.

He said the number of deaths could rise and several passengers have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two boys, aged 5 and 14 years, and three females are among the deceased persons, as per reports.

Meanwhile, J&K LG Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the accident and announced ex gratia of Rupees 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.

He also directed Police and Civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured, in a tweet.

โ€œSaddened by loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch. Condolences to bereaved families. May the injured recover soon, Rs. 5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of deceased. Directed Police and Civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured,โ€ he said in the tweet.
