Srinagar: Residents of Srinagar outskirts including Zewan, Pantha Chowk, Zafran Colony, and Balhama areas have urged for immediate resumption of Sumo (taxi) services in their areas, saying that the absence of the facility has created immense hardships for students and the elderly.
The residents, especially from Zaffran Colony, are being forced to face tremendous hardships for the past few months as the Sumo services from Lal Chowk towards Zewan, Pantha Chowk, Zafran Colony, and Balhama and vice-versa were stopped for unknown reasons.
“The students, employees, and especially elderly people have no option other than walking miles to find any vehicle for their destinations,” Ghulam Qadir, a resident of the area said.
He added that a few months back, the sumo services have been stopped for unknown reasons, which is leaving the local populace in the lurch.
Most of the households here don’t have vehicles and thus private cabs were the only option, said another resident, Aqib Wani.
Meanwhile, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Kashmir, Syed Bukhari said that the route has been listed in the areas where e-rickshaws will ply from Monday.
“The demand of the public will be addressed as the e-rickshaws will start plying along the route from Monday,” he said.
