Srinagar: In Kashmir, a mere 7,000 candidates have submitted applications for the 11,500 slots allocated to the region by the Hajj Committee of India with Hajj aspirants citing passport delays as the primary reason.
Several applicants from the valley have urged the LG administration to consider extending the deadline for form submission, citing ongoing delays in passport verification as the primary reason for their request.
According to reports, numerous aspiring candidates have conveyed their disappointment, expressing concern over the ongoing passport verification process. They fear that these delays might result in missing their submission deadline.
I’ve completed all my documentation, including obtaining my confirmation letter. However, my passport verification is still pending," said a hajj aspirant, Mohammad Ayoub from Srinagar.
“The delay in passport verification is causing anxiety for me. I am earnestly appealing to the State Hajj Committee for an extension in the application process," he added.
Many other aspirants echoed similar sentiments.
In stark contrast to last year when over 14,200 people from J&K applied for Hajj, this year has seen a notable decline.
