India: Omicron, the new covid variant was first detected in southern Africa and since then has spread to nearly two dozen countries.
Two people from Karnataka have tested positive for the New Covid variant Omicron, Union health ministry informed on Thursday.
These are the first cases of Omicron to be reported in India.
Lav Agarwal, joint secretary, Union health ministry also said the patients have not reported any severe symptoms so far.
"All primary contacts and secondary contacts of both the cases have been traced and are being tested," Agarwal further said.
Pertinently, world countries had re-imposed Travel ban from most of the hit countries, India, however has not banned the travel yet.
