Srinagar:ย Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday expressed hope that a new government at the "Centre" will understand the situation in the valley and take initiatives that will be lenient, as scores of Kashmiri youth still languish in jails.

Farooq was allowed to offer Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid after four weeks.

โ€œThe Hurriyat Conference has always said the resolution will come through dialogue, and we have suffered for that also,โ€ he said.

He said that youth and political prisoners fromย  Jammu and Kashmir were still in jail.

โ€œThe process of verification for jobs and passports has also been complicated and I think the government needs to show some leniency on these aspects,โ€ he said, adding โ€œwe expect the government will change its policy, show some leniency and move forward with a humane and realistic approachโ€.ย ย
