In response to the disturbing video depicting the assault of two Kuki-Zomi women in Manipur, the Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA— an association of former underground Mizo National Front Militants ) has urged Meiteis residing in Mizoram to vacate the state for their own safety.
As panic spreads among the small Meitei community in Mizoram, the Manipur government has offered to evacuate them via chartered flights.
The Mizos of Mizoram, who share deep cultural ties with the Kuki-Zomi community.
Over 12,500 Kuki-Zomi individuals have already sought refuge in Mizoram since the outbreak of violence on May 3.
The statement from PAMRA, written in Mizo language, expressed the hurt sentiments of the Mizo people and emphasized the growing unsafe environment for Meiteis in Manipur.
There are roughly 2,000 Meitei people residing in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl, including government employees, students and workers.
Many of them are from Assam’s Barak Valley. After the statement came to light on Friday night, an order was issued by Mizoram’s DIG Northern Range, directing that security personnel be deployed to four locations to “ensure safety of Meitei(s) in Aizawl”.
