Srinagar: A man killed three persons including his mother and injured seven others by attacking all of them with a lathi (long heavy stick) in the Aishmuqam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday morning.
The accused has been identified as Javed Hassan Rather. However, his age wasn’t immediately known and the deceased were identified as Ghulam Nabi Khadim, his mother Hafiza Begum, and Mohammad Ameen Shah—all residents of Ashmuqam.
Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Pahalgam has said that the accused person is mentally challenged and killed three persons including his mother.
However, his father said that he was working as a baker in the Pahalgam area and denied reports of his mental instability.
Local sources of the area told The Himalayan Post that the accused was under the influence of drugs.
"The mentally challenged person first attacked his family members and his parents were injured and later came out and attacked several people outside," Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Pahalgam said.
SDM further informed KNO that the accused has been taken into custody, adding that he is personally monitoring the situation.
