Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has barred supervisory staff from carrying mobile phones during examination hours in the ongoing annual regular board examinations, directing them to deposit their devices with the respective centre superintendents.

In a circular, JKBOSE Secretary directed all centre superintendents to ensure strict compliance with the instructions, making them personally responsible for their implementation.

“They will deposit the cell phones with the centre superintendents, who will be personally responsible for implementation of the circular instruction,” the circular reads.

However, centre superintendents have been exempted from the restriction and are permitted to retain their mobile phones for official communication.

“They can keep mobile phones for effective communication and to remain in constant touch with Divisional or Sub Branch offices of JKBOSE, besides, their own departmental hierarchical set up,” the circular states.

The board has also directed that no candidate be allowed to leave the examination centre with the question paper until at least half of the examination duration has elapsed.

The latest instructions come amid the ongoing board examinations and days after JKBOSE constituted a three-member committee to investigate the reported outage of the Mathematics question paper during the Class 10 annual regular examination at a centre in Mahore shortly after the examination began on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the annual regular examinations for Class 12 commenced on Wednesday and will continue until November 21. The examinations for Class 11 are scheduled to begin on October 29 and conclude on November 30.

Earlier, nearly 97,000 students appeared for the Class 10 examinations on October 19. Officials said the examination was conducted at 1,003 centres across Kashmir and some districts falling under the winter zone of the Jammu division.

According to JKBOSE, a total of 97,500 students have been enrolled for the Class 10 examinations, including 72,232 from Kashmir and 25,268 from the winter-zone areas of the Jammu division.

The board has also said that around 2.70 lakh students have registered for the Class 10, 11 and 12 examinations this year.
