Iran, Iraq Calls For Emergency OIC Meeting Over Palestine

The foreign ministers of Iran and Iraq have jointly called for an urgent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address the ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine.

 

In a recent telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein discussed the evolving situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

 

Both ministers underscored the importance of unity and coordination among Muslim nations to support the Palestinian people.

 

They urged the OIC to convene an emergency meeting to assess the unfolding developments in Palestinian lands and to extend solidarity to Palestinians and the al-Aqsa Mosque in the face of the Israeli regime’s brutal actions.

 

Abdollahian said that it is Palestinians’ legitimate right to resist Israeli aggression and occupation and called the Hamas attack a natural response. 

 

OIC is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1969, consisting of 57 member states, with 48 being Muslim-majority countries, claiming to work for the Muslim world.

 

The Palestine-Israeli Conflict escalated after Hamas launched a military operation with Palestinian fighters entering the Israeli-occupied territories on Saturday. 

 

In three days, more than 510 Palestinians and 800 Israelis have been killed. Also, 2750 Palestinians and 2243 Israelis were injured. 

 

Hamas’s surprise attack came after Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in recent days and a record number of Palestinians were killed by Israel in recent months.
