Former Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi on Monday quit Islam and converted to Hinduism in Dasna Devi temple at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh by head priest Swami Yati Narsinghanand.
The Muslim clerk cited fresh controversy after releasing a book titled ‘Muhammad’ with UP clerics condemning its cover page that portrays a man with a semi-naked woman and also made blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.
Earlier, he filid a PIL in the Supreme Court for removing 26 verses of the Quran saying that they promote terrorism and jihad but the court termed the petition to be “absolutely frivolous” and fined him with Rs 50,000.
“Indian Muslims didn’t want to give land for my burial, I no more want to be buried but cremated, Rizvi now named as Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi said while talking to reporters.
However, Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, national president of All India Hindu Mahasabha welcomed his decision and said “He is now a part of our religion, no fanatic should dare to issue a fatwa against him.”
After the ceremony, Rizvi called the Sanatan Dharma as world’s purest religion. He said that he chose the holy day of December 6 to convert to Hinduism as on this day, the Babari mosque was demolished in 1992.
The book was released on November 4 at Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad but the issue erupted on November 15, after Rizvi posted its cover page image on his Facebook page.
Shia and Sunni Muslims in the region had opposed the book.
Wasim Rizvi later issued a statement, saying he was receiving life threats for writing the book and challenging 26 verses from the Quran.
