A group of Hindu students have sparked controversy after chanting Jai Shree Ram (Hail Lord Ram, a Hindutva slogan chanted by India’s Right-wing ideologues) while opposing Namaz being offered by Muslim students in a private space at a coaching centre in Rajasthan’s Kota.
The students reportedly gathered near the venue and began chanting the slogans while a group of Muslim students were offering Namaz (Salah, Mandatory five-time Islamic prayers).
The video, purportedly recorded at Allen Institute in Kota, has gained widespread attention on social media. In the video, Hindu students are seen gathering around a room where Muslim students were praying.
The Kota Police has said that the video is from 2020. However, Alt News reported that the video was shot on June 23, 2023.
The principal of the institute has also confirmed that the incident indeed happened recently.
India has seen a rise in intolerance against Muslims in recent years, with reports of discrimination against those who practice their faith. This includes the wearing of hijabs, performing namaz, and sacrificing animals on Eid.
