‘Hepatitis Outbreak’ Caused By ‘Unsafe’ Water Supply Kills Minor Girl In Kulgam

Kulgam: Panic gripped in Yaripora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday after a 6-year-old girl was killed due to an outbreak of suspected Hepatitis caused by unsafe water supply while dozens more were infected.  

The minor girl has been identified as Mayra Gulzar. 
 
“Few children have been shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment among them one is critical”, official sources said, adding that the infection has spread due to unsafe water supply in the village.
 
A suspected Hepatitis outbreak killed a  minor girl, who was admitted at JVC hospital in Srinagar while over a dozen have tested positive for the infection in the Turk Tachloo area of Kulgam’s Yaripora village, they said. 
 
Moreover, a medical team has been rushed to the village for the collection of samples, Block Medical Officer, Yaripora Dr. Nighat Nasreen said. 
 
“Medicine is also being given to the infected children”, she added.
