Srinagar: Authorities have barred congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid on Friday amid fear of protests against the Israeli offensive in Gaza. This was the fourth consecutive Friday when prayers were disallowed at the historic mosque.
The grand mosque, located in the Nowhatta area of the city, remains locked and security personnel were deployed around the mosque to maintain “law and order.”
Talking about the development, Mirwaiz stated that Kashmir’s biggest mosque remains closed “without any reason.”
“I was released (from house arrest) after four years, but I could offer namaz (at the mosque) only on a couple of Fridays. I don’t understand what is my status? I want the honourable high court to take note of this," said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on the closure of Jama Masjid.
