At least six people were killed and 23 others injured after an explosive device planted in a vehicle near the Sayeda Zeinab shrine exploded in Syriaโ s capital, Damascus on Thursday.

The bombing adhered around 5:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) on Thursday during the 8th Muharram when Shiโite Muslims flock the shrine to mark the mourning period.

As per Reuters, it was the second attack this week at the shrine.

Two people were injured in a separate blast on Tuesday.

Sayeda Zeinab is the granddaughter of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)- her shrine is a site of mass pilgrimage especially during the month of Muhaaram. ย
