Srinagar, 12 Jan — A Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir between January 20 and January 25, bringing widespread snowfall to the region, weather officials said on Monday.
According to the Kashmir Weather Forecast, there is about a 70% probability of moderate to heavy snowfall over the plains of Kashmir, including Srinagar, during this period. The system is expected to strengthen as it moves in, increasing the chances of heavy to very heavy snowfall in higher-altitude areas.
Tourist hotspots and high mountain reaches such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri and Pahalgam are expected to see intense snowfall, which could affect road connectivity, power supply and daily life.
Weather experts also noted that two to three Western Disturbances may influence the region between January 16 and January 25, with the most significant impact expected from January 20 to 25.
Authorities and travellers have been urged to exercise caution, follow official weather advisories and stay updated with the latest forecasts as weather models become clearer in the coming days.
