Sopore, Apr 24 — Six persons have been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Sopore in connection with vandalism during protests that erupted over allegations of harassment of a female student, officials said on Friday.
All six detainees have been lodged in District Jail Bhadarwah, while more individuals linked to the violence are being identified, with further action expected, an official said.
The protests broke out after allegations surfaced against a lecturer, triggering demonstrations that later “turned violent,” the official said. “Incidents of stone-pelting and damage to both public and private property were reported, including harm to school buildings and vehicles,” he added.
Police said several arrests had already been made in the case, and investigations are ongoing to trace others involved in the unrest.
