Srinagar: J&K Police arrested a Corporator of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Saturday in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case that includes charges of outraging modesty and online stalking.
The accused identified as Aqib Ahmed Renzu and a resident of Nishat area in Srinagar was arrested following a complaint filed at the Ram Bagh police station by the victim, who accused the Corporator of attempting to tarnish her modesty.
“The victim provided substantial technical evidence to support her claims,” Police said.
In a post on X (formally known as Twitter) Police said that strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the victim.
"One SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu of Nishat Srinagar arrested for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking. Strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim. FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station," reads the Post.
