Srinagar, May 5 — Police on Tuesday attached immovable properties worth over ₹2 crore in Srinagar and Anantnag districts under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, citing their links to alleged drug trafficking.
In Srinagar’s Hawal area, Police Station Nowhatta attached property valued at approximately ₹1.20 crore belonging to Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah. The action was carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 61/2019 registered under Sections 8/20 of the Act.
The attached assets include a three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey kitchen block with three washrooms, and land measuring nine marlas.
“Investigations revealed that the property was acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trafficking,” police said, adding that the attachment followed due legal procedure.
In a separate action, Anantnag Police attached property worth around ₹85 lakh in Srigufwara area. The operation was conducted by Police Station Srigufwara under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 72/2022.
The property, a single-storey residential house, belongs to Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie of Shalgam. Officials said the asset was identified as having been purchased using illegal earnings from narcotics trade.
“During investigation, it was established that the said property was acquired through illicit drug proceeds,” an official said.
Police said the actions form part of an ongoing campaign against narcotics networks, including the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan,” with a focus on dismantling financial channels linked to drug trafficking.
Authorities said further action against such networks will continue.
