Teen Dies, Three Injured in Fire at Darul Uloom in Anantnag

Blaze Damages Seminary Building in Mattan; Short Circuit Suspected

Anantnag, May 12 — A 15-year=old student died and three others sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at Mosque-cum-Darul Uloom Baba Haider Reshi on Court Road in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.

According to officials, the blaze damaged portions of the Darul Uloom premises before teams from the Fire and Emergency Services, assisted by local residents and seminary students, brought the fire under control.

Four students suffered burn injuries in the incident and were shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for treatment.

The deceased student was identified as Bilal Ahmad Kumar, 15, son of Mohammad Akbar Kumar, a resident of Wardwan. Doctors at GMC Anantnag declared him brought dead on arrival, officials said.

The injured students were identified as Mohammad Sahil Manaz, 17, son of Abdul Kareem of Sungaldan; Irfan Gulzar, 14, son of Gulzar Ahmad Doie of Lidroo Pahalgam; and Sabir Fayaz Takkad, 16, son of Fayaz Ahmad of Reasi.

Officials said Sahil Manaz was later referred to SMHS Hospital for advanced treatment, while the other two injured students are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Anantnag.

Preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though the exact cause is being ascertained, officials added.
