SRINAGAR, May 14 — The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday appealed to residents of the city to cooperate with officials during the forthcoming Census 2027 exercise, saying accurate data collection was essential for planning, infrastructure development and public welfare initiatives.
In a public message issued through the corporation’s official social media handle, Principal Census Officer Urban Srinagar and SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb said the success of the exercise depended significantly on public participation.
“Appeal to all citizens of Srinagar City to extend full cooperation in the forthcoming Census 2027 exercise to ensure accurate, transparent and efficient data collection for better planning and development,” the message stated.
The corporation said residents should assist officials engaged in the exercise so that updated and reliable demographic and household data could be compiled for administrative and developmental purposes.
Officials said census data plays an important role in urban planning, infrastructure projects, welfare schemes and allocation of public resources.
The appeal comes as preparations begin for Census 2027, which is expected to be one of the country’s largest administrative exercises involving extensive nationwide data collection.
