Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to observe the International Day of Yoga at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) along the banks of the world-famous Dal Lake in Srinagar on June 21st.

Regarding the event, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, stated, “It’s an honor for the valley to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Yoga Day. He will perform yoga on the banks of Dal Lake, and 7,000 people will participate in the event.”

AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav mentioned that this year’s theme will be ‘Yoga for Self and Society.’

Yoga is associated with Hindu mythology and involves spiritual, mental, and physical practices that originated in ancient India.

It incorporates a combination of postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation aimed at achieving harmony between the body and mind.

India celebrates the International Day of Yoga on June 21st each year. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The aim is to raise global awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people to adopt it as part of their lifestyle.

Given the high-profile event and visit, Srinagar city has been declared a 'Temporary Red Zone' for the operation of drones and quadcopters, with reports suggesting increased police frisking and seizure of two-wheelers in the city.
