Srinagar/Jammu, April 30 — Exchange of fire continues between India and Pakistan in the divided Kashmir region for the sixth consecutive day.
In a statement, the Indian military said there was unprovoked small arms firing by Pakistani forces across the Line of Control (LoC) and the ‘International Border’ during the intervening night of April 29 and 30.
Personnel responded to the firing, which also targeted Indian positions in the Baramulla and Kupwara districts along the LoC, according to a military official.
The official confirmed that Indian troops responded in a “measured and appropriate manner and added that there were no immediate reports of injury or damage on the Indian side.”
The continuous exchange of fire follows the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, where 26 people were killed, triggering a spike in ceasefire violations and further escalating military tensions.
In response, India has taken several diplomatic steps, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, cancelling all visas issued to Pakistani nationals from April 27, and immediately shutting down the Attari land transit point.
Pakistan has since threatened to withdraw from the Shimla Agreement, which defines the Line of Control and governs bilateral relations in Kashmir.
