Uri, Apr 23 — Indian military troops foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning, sparking a brief exchange of fire, defence officials said.
According to military sources, two to three unidentified militants attempted to cross into the Indian side of Kashmir, through the Sarjeevan area near Uri Nala.
“Troops stationed at forward posts detected suspicious movement and engaged the infiltrators.”
“Troops intercepted them near the LoC, triggering a firefight. The operation is currently underway and further details will be shared as the situation evolves,” a defence official said.
Following the exchange, forces launched a cordon-and-search operation across the densely forested area to track down any militants who may have retreated.
The infiltration attempt comes amid heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, which killed 28 people.
