Dry spell to prevail in J&K; brief rain likely over weekend

Day temperatures set to rise; farmers advised to resume field work

Srinagar, Apr 10 — Weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry over the next several days, with only brief spells of light rain or thundershowers at isolated places, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.

“Generally dry weather is likely to prevail, with a gradual rise in day temperatures,” an official at the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.

According to the forecast, light rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places on April 11, mainly during late afternoon or evening hours, while April 12 is expected to remain largely dry with isolated light rain spells.

The department said dry conditions are likely on April 13 and 14, with similar weather expected on April 15. Another spell of scattered rain and thundershowers may occur on April 16 and 17, followed by dry weather again from April 18 to 20.

The MeT office has advised farmers to resume agricultural operations in view of the improving weather. “Maximum temperatures are expected to rise gradually over the next five days,” the official said.

Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 20.2°C, 1.4°C above the seasonal average of 18.8°C, while the minimum settled at 4.6°C, 2.3°C below normal.

Qazigund recorded a high of 20.0°C and a low of 4.0°C. Pahalgam registered 16.6°C and 0.2°C, respectively, while Kupwara recorded 19.8°C as the maximum and 2.2°C as the minimum. Kokernag settled at 18.6°C and 3.4°C.

Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 9.2°C and a minimum of minus 1.9°C.

Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.3°C, 2.1°C below the seasonal average, and a minimum of 12.4°C. Banihal recorded 20.4°C and 4.5°C, Batote 20.8°C and 5.7°C, while Katra registered 26.2°C as the maximum and 10.9°C as the minimum, the MeT office said.
