A case was subsequently filed under FIR No. 05/2025, with charges under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue their efforts to combat drug abuse in the region, the statement added.
Codeine Phosphate, a controlled substance, is often used as a cough suppressant, but when abused, it can lead to severe addiction. It is classified as a narcotic under the NDPS Act due to its potential for misuse. Misuse can cause euphoria, drowsiness, and respiratory issues, making it a target for illegal distribution and consumption. Its use in non-medical settings is highly regulated due to its association with drug abuse.
