Kargil: After the mass resignation of the NC Kargil unit in support of Haji Hanifa Jan, the NC's Kargil district president, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate, National Conference vice president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his dismay at the resignations stating that the alliance will not be breached with the Congress.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah stated that while the mass resignation of NC leaders is disheartening, the party is prepared to make sacrifices.

"The mass resignation by NC leaders is disheartening, but our alliance with the Indian National Congress will remain steadfast. NC is prepared to make sacrifices in this regard," Abdullah affirmed.

He acknowledged the challenges of sharing votes, expressing gratitude for any support, even if it's just one vote for the Congress party.

“Sharing votes is indeed not easy, but even if only one vote from the Congress party is cast in my favor, it is enough for me," he added.

"I am reaching out to these leaders, urging their support for the INC candidate,” he added.

On May 1, the NC and Congress announced Hanifa's candidacy for the Lok Sabha election. However, this announcement was countered by Congress naming Namgyal, a member of the Leh autonomous council, as its candidate for the election.

The election is scheduled for May 20. The Congress and the National Conference are contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, in alliance, with both parties contesting three seats each; Congress in Udhampur, Jammu and Ladakh and the National Conference in Anantnag, Srinagar and Baramulla.

It is noteworthy to mentaion that Ladakh's Buddhists and Muslims are jointly advocating for the sixth schedule, including innovator and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk.
