New Delhi, 15 February 2025: Days after the BJP came to power in Delhi, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) instructed the Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct a detailed probe into the alleged expansion and interior expenditures of the chief minister’s official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road.
BJP leader Vijender Gupta, the newly elected BJP MLA from Rohini, said the CVC acted on his complaints and sought factual reports from the PWD before directing the probe.
"The commission has now asked for a detailed investigation into the matter," he said.
Dubbed "Sheesh Mahal" by the BJP over alleged corruption, the bungalow served as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence from 2015 until early October last year. There was no immediate response from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or Kejriwal.
In his first complaint, Gupta alleged Kejriwal violated building regulations to construct a lavish mansion spanning 40,000 square yards (8 acres).
He claimed that government properties, including plots No. 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road—formerly housing senior officials and judges in Type-V flats—and two bungalows at 8-A and 8-B, Flagstaff Road, were demolished and merged into the new residence, breaching ground coverage and floor area ratio norms without proper layout plan approvals.
His second complaint focused on alleged "extravagant spending" on renovations and interiors at the bungalow. Gupta further claimed "massive financial irregularities" and crores of rupees in taxpayer money were used for luxury amenities at the residence.
