Boston, April 21 — Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi told an Indian diaspora gathering in Boston that India’s Election Commission stood “compromised,” citing what he called glaring discrepancies in Maharashtra’s voter data.

Gandhi claimed that during the Maharashtra assembly polls, 65 lakh new votes were added to the voter list within two hours—something he described as “physically impossible.”

“More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact,” he said.

“The EC gave us a figure at 5:30 p.m., and by 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh additional votes had appeared.”

He added, “It’s very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised. There is something very wrong with the system.”

Gandhi reached Brown University in Rhode Island on Sunday evening for a two-day visit on April 21 and 22, where he will interact with faculty members and students. According to the Congress, the visit includes a talk at the university and a series of discussions on global affairs and democratic values.
