New Delhi, Oct 14: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been remanded to five days of judicial custody after they were detained in connection with an alleged trespass at Jantar Mantar, Delhi Police said.

The incident took place on October 13, when 14 members of the party allegedly entered the protest site through private property despite Jantar Mantar no longer being a designated venue for protests, according to the police.

Police personnel deployed at the spot attempted to stop the group but were allegedly obstructed from discharging their official duties, police said.

Two FIRs were registered in connection with the incident at Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations.

Police subsequently arrested Das, Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde under preventive provisions, citing alleged violations of law and apprehensions of further disturbance to public peace.

The three were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate, where proceedings were initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The magistrate remanded Das and Ranka to five days of judicial custody, citing concerns that they could repeat the alleged violations or instigate others if released.

The police said the action followed the group’s alleged entry into the denotified protest site and obstruction of personnel deployed there.
