New Delhi, September 15: Several prominent schools in Delhi received bomb-threat emails on Tuesday morning, triggering extensive security checks and searches by police and bomb squads, officials said.
The threats, which were later declared a hoax, targeted Air Force Bal Bharati School, Carmel Convent School, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and The British School, among other institutions.
Officials said the emails were received around 10:17 am and were reportedly written in Punjabi. The messages threatened explosions at specified locations and times and warned people against travelling by Metro and trains.
The emails also contained threats targeting police stations and courts, including Tis Hazari, Karkardooma and Patiala House, officials said.
One of the emails carried the subject line: “B00000M|B New Dellhi Schools @ 1:11PM”.
Following the threats, Delhi Police launched a security operation at the affected schools. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, along with sniffer dog teams, were deployed to search the premises and check for any suspicious objects.
Police teams searched classrooms, corridors, open areas and other parts of the school campuses using specialised equipment. Fire tenders and ambulances were also kept on standby as a precautionary measure.
Local police personnel were deployed outside the schools to secure the premises and manage crowds, as concerned parents gathered after news of the threats emerged.
Officials said no explosive device was found during the searches.
Police are now examining the contents and technical details of the emails to determine their origin and whether they are connected to a series of similar bomb threats targeting schools and other public institutions in Delhi over the past three years.
The latest incident comes amid repeated instances of threat emails being sent to schools and public institutions in the national capital, prompting heightened security measures and evacuations in several cases.
