Srinagar: The night temperature of north Kashmir’s famous tourist destination Gulmarg was recorded above normal at 6.0 °C during this time of the year.
“Gulmarg recorded 5.2°C against 4.6°C on the previous night. While minus 0.8°C is the normal night tempreture of the place during this time of the season, a metrological department official said.
The temperature was 6.0°C above normal for the place, he said.
The night Temperature of the Himalayan meadow is rising at a pace: ‘On Saturday, it recorded 3.0°C against 0.8°C on the previous night,’ according to the figures by the Metrological department.
Before a fortnight, the place was thronged by tourists and locals to glimpse ‘world’s largest igloos’ – started last year by a 40-year-old Kashmiri Syed Wasim Shah.
“Igloo cafes (height of 37.5 feet and a diameter of 44.5) started melting on 13 March of this year and a day after, it was closed for visitors,” Ishfaq, Manager at the Kolohoi resorts told The Himalayan Post.
While the night temperatures decreased across Kashmir, places like south Kashmir – Kokernag and Pahalgam also recorded above normal night temperatures.
Reportedly, Kokernag recorded 8.3°C against 9.6°C the previous night. It was 3.6°C more than normal during this time of the season.
Moreover, Pahalgam had 3.3°C against 6.2°C last night. The temperature was 1.7°C above normal for the place, MET official said.
