At least 22 people were killed when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the city of Al-Fashir.

According to a Facebook post by the Al-Fashir Resistance Committees, the RSF fired artillery shells at markets, hospitals, and residential buildings, and used a drone to target a hospital.

Al-Fashir is the last remaining position held by the national military in the Darfur region and is a critical front in the conflict with the RSF.

The activist group reported counting 22 bodies, with the casualty toll expected to rise.

RSF has not immediately commented on the attack, but it has previously denied targeting civilian areas.

The United Nations reports that more than 300,000 people have fled Al-Fashir due to the fighting, which began in April.

As of late July 2024, the conflict in Sudan between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed over 1,500 people.
