2 Feared Drowned After Slipping Into Jhelum in Hajin, One Rescued

Hajin, May 8 โ€” Two persons are feared drowned after three men slipped into the Jhelum river in Hajin area of north Kashmirโ€™s Bandipora district on Friday, officials said.

The incident took place when the trio was washing tents along the banks of the river, officials said.

โ€œOne of them accidentally slipped into the river, following which the other two jumped in to rescue him but were swept away by the strong current,โ€ an official said.

He said one of the men was rescued by locals and shifted to a nearby health facility, while the remaining two are still missing.

Rescue teams, including police personnel and local volunteers, have launched a search operation in the area to trace the missing men.

The identities of the victims had not been ascertained till the filing of this report.ย
