Srinagar: The federally run J&K administration have suspended the Mobile Internet services across Kashmir on the 73rd republic day of India.

An official said the internet services have been temporarily suspended to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir region on Wednesday.

However, โ€˜the mobile phone and broadband services remained unaffected,โ€™ he said.

Republic Day marks the adoption of the constitution of India and the transition of the country to a republic on January 26, 1950.

The day is celebrated by showcasing military prowess and cultural pageantry.

Authorities have been suspending the mobile phone and Internet services on Indiaโ€™s Republic Day and Independence Day as part of the โ€˜securityโ€™ drill in the valley since 2005 when militants used a mobile phone to trigger an IED blast near the venues of Independence Day celebrations in Kashmir.
