Longest Anti Militancy Op. in Poonch Winds up, Highway Reopens For Traffic

Poonch: Authorities in Poonch district on Sunday have ordered opening of the stretch of national highway between Bhimber Gali to Jarran Wali Gali that was closed from last seventeen days due to ongoing anti-militancy operation at Bhata Dhurian.

Officials said that today morning, directions were received from higher authorities after which field forces have opened highway stretch for traffic and vehicles are now being allowed to ply on the road.

This Poonch encounter; believed to be the longest anti-militancy operation of Indian army since 2003 killed nine army men including two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs.)

From last 17 days, highway was continuously closed and people were facing severe hardships while travelling on the alternative Mendham BG road following it’s deteriorating condition.
