Srinagar: A sand extractor drowned to death in river Jhelum at Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
He has been identified as Khalil Ahmad Chohan, son of Ab Raheem, and a resident of Tanghard Hiller area of Arhama Kokernag.
He drowned during extraction of the sand from river Jhelum.
Soon after, the locals and police launched efforts to rescue the drowned person and later on retrieved him in an unconscious state.
He was taken to a nearby health facility, where the doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, a police official said that the body would be handed over to family after necessary medico-legal formalities.
