Srinagar, Apr 10 — The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday dismissed two government employees for their alleged involvement in activities threatening India’s national security.
The termination orders, issued under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, apply to Basharat Ahmad Mir, an Assistant Wireless Operator in the J&K Police Department, and Ishtiyak Ahmad Malik, a Senior Assistant in the Public Works (R&B) Department.
A senior official confirmed that both persons were removed “in the interest of the security of the state,” citing adverse findings from law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Mir, a resident of Upper Brein in Srinagar, was allegedly in direct contact with Pakistan intelligence operatives.
“He was found to be sharing sensitive information regarding security deployments and installations with hostile agencies,” the official noted, adding that his role at a sensitive post within the police made the breach even more alarming.
“Instead of upholding his duty, he acted as an active conduit for the adversary, compromising India’s sovereignty and national integrity,” the statement said.
Malik, hailing from Shitroo Larnoo in Anantnag, was accused of deep-rooted ties with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI-JK) and of being an associate of Hizbul Mujahideen.
“His involvement extended beyond ideological support. He provided logistical assistance, intelligence on security movements, and helped build networks of overground workers,” the statement said.
Authorities linked his actions to multiple attacks on forces and public officials in South Kashmir.
“Government positions cannot be misused to aid subversion. This action is a clear message,” said an official source.
