Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration led by LG Manoj Sinha on Friday accorded sanction to rename Jhelum Stadium Janbazpora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after late Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
According to an order, a sanction has been accorded to name Jhelum Stadium, Janbazpora as "General Bipin Rawat Stadium".
"The Youth Services and Sports Department and Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla shall take immediate necessary steps including amending their records for effecting the change," reads the order.
It added that it is further ordered that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir shall ensure that an appropriate event is organized in connection with the naming of the stadium.
General Rawat was a four-star general of the Indian Military who served as the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces from January 2020 until his death in a helicopter crash in December 2021.
