Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday began the process of handing over land documents to the “landless people of Jammu and Kashmir” for house construction under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna.
The documents were handed over to some of the selected beneficiaries by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at a function held here.
“It is a matter of happiness that I handed over documents of 5 marlas land to some beneficiaries who are landless but eligible for housing under PMAY. The respective Deputy Commissioners will do the same in their districts,” Sinha said.
Dispelling the charges that this scheme might be used to alter the demography of Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha asked the grassroots-level representatives to keep an eye on the list of beneficiaries in their respective areas.
“The elected representatives are here. You should look at the beneficiary list and check if there is anyone from outside (JK). There are some people who are unnecessarily playing with the emotions of the people on every issue,” he said.
Moreover, the district administration in Baramulla on Monday allotted five Marla land each to five “landless beneficiaries” for constructing houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Baramulla, Aijaz Abdullah Saraf in presence of Assistant Commissioner Revenue Baramulla, Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad on Monday handed over sanction orders of 05 Marla of land to five landless eligible beneficiaries of Baramulla under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) Scheme 2023, an official spokesperson said.
Pertinently, as envisaged under PMAY-G Scheme, any person with a J&K domicile who does not own family land or is not entitled to inherit 5 Marla or more land will be in the scheme’s ambit.
After officiating the transfer of land rights and other formalities, the ADDC congratulated the beneficiaries on receiving the land documents, the spokesperson said.
While highlighting the benefits of the scheme, he said, the ADDC stated that this commendable effort is aimed at fostering upliftment and empowerment of the landless families.
“He added that the step is expected not only to enhance the living conditions of these five families but also serve as an example of inclusive development for communities across the district,” he said.
The ADDC, the spokesperson said, asserted that the district administration is committed to implement the PMAY-G Scheme for deserving beneficiaries at grass roots level, the ADC said that various cases are in the waiting list which will be finalized after verification of credentials and other processes as per the guidelines issued by the government.
It is pertinent to mention that as per the 2011 census, there are 3711 homeless families in J&K and earlier LG announced that 2 lakh families have been identified for the scheme.
