PDP (People’s Democratic Party) President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday held a sit-in protest in Delhi’s Jantar-Mantar area against the civilian killings in Kashmir and over the unfolding situation in the valley.
"Kashmir has become a prison where people are not allowed to express their opinion. They are being muzzled since August 2019, our roads are drenched in blood, civilians, non- locals are being killed, dead bodies are not returned to the families even I am not allowed to visit residences of civilians killed in cold murder,” Mufti said to reporters.
She decided to stage a protest in the Indian capital as she was never allowed to register her protest in Kashmir. “I am either detained at house or whisked away by police every time I planned to protest.”
On 5 August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was unanimously abrogated by the BJP Govt led Centre and the state bifurcated into directly run union territories.
