Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir’s mainstream leadership has been invited to Raj Bhavan this evening by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, sources disclosed.

Sources said that LG’s secretariat has invited heads of the National Conference, Peoples Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Congress, and other parties to Raj Bhavan at 6:00 PM.

“The purpose of the meeting is not known. We have received an invitation to attend a high-tea,” the invitees said.

This is the first exercise by the LG Manoj Sinha to “engage” with mainstream political parties of J&K.

Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party has termed the invitation a mockery and asked about the outputs of All Parties Meet back in June last year.

“For a meeting in the evening that is supposed to be a serious affair, the invitation is sent in the morning. What a mockery! By the way what happened to the outcome of the all parties meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of India in which home minster and J&K LG Manoj Sinha was also present?,” chief spokesman of PDP said on Twitter.

In the first political engagement since the Bhartiya Janta Party-led Narendra Modi government scrapped the semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, 14 top unionists from Jammu and Kashmir were invited for talks on June 24 last year by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi.

The leaders were hounded and denounced as “Gupkar Gang”, most of these Kashmiri politicians were detained for months, including three former chief ministers, and booked under draconian laws like Public Safety Act.
