Srinagar: The government of India on Sunday banned the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, J&K for a period of 5 years under UAPA.
In a post on X, Home Minister Amit Shah said that ‘the party is involved in forbidden activities to separate J&K from India and establish Islamic rule.’
“The group is found spreading anti-India propaganda and continuing terror activities to fuel secessionism in J&K,” he said.
“Under PM Modi’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, any individual or organisation found involved in anti-India activities will be thwarted forthwith,” he said.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu & Kashmir (Movement for Freedom Jammu and Kashmir) is a separatist political party in Jammu and Kashmir, founded by Syed Ali Shah Geelani on 7 August 2004 after he quit his former party, Jamaat-e-Islami. Kashmir.
Earlier, Masrat Alam’s Muslim league was banned.
It is pertinent to mention that Jamat-e-Islami and JKLF were the first separatist political parties to be banned by the Modi government.
