Srinagar, Jan 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday defended the transshipment of the Delhi-Kashmir train at Katra, stating that people should not object to changing trains at the Katra Railway Station if it guarantees their safety.
ย
Speaking to reporters, Omar said, โ€œIf there are security concerns, I donโ€™t think there should be any objections. After all, people who travel by train expect their safety and security, and we share that expectation.โ€
ย
Omar added that until the region returns to complete normalcy, such security measures should be accepted.
ย
โ€œIf it is necessary to address any potential threats, it is acceptable,โ€ he said, further noting, โ€œUltimately, itโ€™s the decision of the railway authorities, and I trust they will take into account the safety of the people when making that decision.โ€

Earlier, the Kashmir Trade Alliance and the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union expressed disappointment over the lack of a direct train between Srinagar and Delhi as well as the absence of goods train. ย
