Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), RR Swain, on Saturday, commented on the disappearance of stone-pelting incidents in Kashmir valley, stating that silencing the last gun would be a gradual process.
While talking to reporters on the sidelines of a public darbar held at Police Headquarters in Srinagar, Swain said that guns will also disappear like stone pelting.
“Gun has a 30-year-long history in J&K and it will take time to silence the last gun,” he said.
“High Court has ruled that stone pelting is an act of terrorism. Here, stone pelting in Kashmir was never connected or linked with developmental issues like roads, electricity or water.”
“Today, there are no civilian injuries or deaths and no security forces personnel got injured or killed in stone pelting in Kashmir.” he said further.
With stone pelting vanishing completely, tourism and trade are flourishing, and schools and colleges are functioning normally, he added.
“Our primary aim is to find ways to end violence. Factors responsible have been tackled in a way that they don’t exist anymore.”
