Govt Announces Artistic Playground For Eidgah After Youth Criticized Cancer Hospital Move

Srinagar: Days after the J&Kโ€™s Waqf board announced construction of Cancer hospital in the Eidgah area of Srinagar which drew criticism from Srinagar youth as the place has traditionally been used for sports activity, the Divisional Commissioner P K Pole on Wednesday announced that the Eidgah will be developed as the state-of the art playground with at least 10 scientifically developed turfs, upgraded football ground.

The park will also be upgraded as a major attraction with all modern facilities, he said.

โ€œI visited the area today to assess the sports facilities available to the youth and directed officials to create more sports facilities for youth in the area,โ€ he added.

He said as far the Cancer treatment facilities are concerned, the nearby SKIMS Soura and AIIMS already upgraded facilities to treat Cancer patients.

โ€œEidgah will be developed on modern lines as one of the best play grounds of Shehre-e-Khass. It will have scientifically developed 10 turfs for cricket players, an upgraded football ground,โ€ he further said.

Poleโ€™s announcement comes days after Waqf Board Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi stated that the Board will construct Cancer hospital at Eidgah, Srinagar. Her announcement sparked massive protests by the youth of downtown area of Srinagar city.
