Er. Rashid’s Bail Delayed as NIA Seeks More Time

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday asked for more time from a Delhi court to respond to a bail request made by Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Er. Rashid, who won the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat.

The Patiala House Court had asked the NIA on Thursday to respond to Er. Rashidโ€™s bail plea after he approached the court for bail. The NIA has requested additional time to prepare its response.ย

The court agreed to this and postponed the next hearing to June 18. Meanwhile, Er. Rashidโ€™s lawyer was allowed to file an urgent application if the oath notification is announced before June 18.

Er. Rashid, who is currently in Tihar Jail due to an alleged involvement in a money laundering case, won the Lok Sabha seat for north Kashmir in the recent elections. He received 472,481 votes, defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by 204,142 votes.

Talks between NDA partners are reportedly in the final stages, and the oath-taking ceremony for the eighteenth Lok Sabha is expected to be announced soon.
