A Muslim cattle rearer/trader was allegedly murdered by a group of cow vigilantes on suspicion of cattle theft in Karnataka’s Ramnagara district on Saturday.
The slain was identified as 35-year-old Idrees Pasha and a resident of the state’s Mandya district.
The murder took place in Sathanur town when Kerehalli and his aides had stopped Pasha’s vehicle in which he was transporting cattle and accused him as well as his associates of theft. Kerehalli and others asked them to go to Pakistan, reported The Indian Express.
One of the prime suspects in the case has been identified as Puneet Kerehalli, who has been booked by police among others.
Cow vigilante violence is the use of physical force in the name of cow protection or upholding the law in an Indian state which bans cow slaughter.
According to a Reuters report, a total of 63 cow vigilante attacks had occurred.
In these attacks between 2010 and June 2017, 28 Indians – 24 of them Muslims – were killed and 124 injured, the Reuter’s report said.
