The Jammu and Kashmir government has canceled the annual Amarnath pilgrimage due to the Covid pandemic.

However, “aarti” will be facilitated online for the devotees.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who is also the chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
Sources said that the decision to cancel the annual pilgrimage, originally scheduled from June 28, was taken in view of the Covid pandemic. However, they said, there will be live ‘Darshan’ of the shivlingum.
The 56-day yatra to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Lord Shiva, located in the upper reaches of Himalayas, is scheduled to start from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal on 28 June and culminate on 22 August.
The pilgrimage was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
